30A final reflection

Image
After reading through all of my blog posts, it blows my mind how much we have done in this class and how much I have grown.  It’s crazy how fast four months can go by and how much you can change and learn within that time. What sticks out to me as I reflect on all of my blog posts is my first elevator pitch. I was so beyond nervous to film it for some reason and I took at least 25 videos before getting the right one. It was definitely my lowest point in this class because it was extremely difficult for me to memorize the pitch I had written and say it effortlessly and confidently. On the second pitch I realized maybe I don’t need to memorize and instead just try to get my main points across and talk to my screen as if it was just a normal person asking about my business. This made my pitch a lot easier to give and by the 3rd pitch I felt like a professional. My most joyous experience is a tie between recording my 3rd elevator and feeling good about it the first time I recorded it ...

Opportunity My business gives people the opportunity to express themselves or express a part of them that they love through the shoes they wear. The specific type of person that I believe would most benefit from my product is a young adult, specifically a college student who loves art, fashion, or just the ability to be a little bit different from everyone else.  In today’s day and age, there is so much controversy on what is right and what is wrong and with technology expanding and growing so rapidly, it’s easy to get overwhelmed over trying to stay updated. We loose time to reflect on ourselves and do something that will make ourselves happy. I find this is common among college students, especially my friends. They are all so concerned with finding internship’s, being the best, and being ahead of the game; they forget to be creative, have fun, and live in the present. I believe my custom design shoes allow people ton express themselves and work creatively with me to crea...

28A Your Exit Strategy

Image
1. I have decided that my exit strategy is to absolutely not exit at all. I cannot sell my business because it is my art work on the shoes that makes the business what it is. I do intend to grow my business into more than just art on shoes but art on different items of clothing and accessories. I am going to begin my making t-shirts with my art work on it and then eventually go into creating backpacks with my designs and much more. 2. I cannot sell my business because it is my art work on the shoes that makes the business what it is. I believe I still have a long way to go and my business can grow so much more. Maybe one day I will give my business to my future children but I will have to teach them art and train them into re-creating my designs. 3. I feel like deciding to continue with my business has forced me to commit to HMKICKS more than ever before. I am constantly thinking of new and innovative ways to expand my business and ask my friends for their opinions and ideas ...

27A Reading Reflection 3

The book I read for this assignment is How to Fail at almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams. I found that the books general theme was that the best thing you can do is to just decide what you want to do in life and try your best to do it, not just wait around for it to happen. Another theme in the book is that you must embrace failure. The book shows many examples of failure from Scott Adams life that begins when he's a kid until being a well established adult with a career. Adams explains that when an individual has the ability to learn from his or her failures and mistakes, they are capable of achieving great success in their future.  I immediately noticed many connections between the book and what we are learning in our class, ENT3003. First, it has been discussed in this class how entrepreneurs fail all of the time, and this was also talked about in the book. I was surprised to learn from the reading that nearly 90% of entrepreneurs fail within the first five...

26A Celebrating Failure

Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed: I am currently taking a public speaking class that I am enjoying very much. For a lot of people memorizing a speech and having to say it in front of other people is terrifying but for me its super easy and fun. So naturally I went into this class expecting to receive an A, until one day I completely misread directions on how to peer review our classmates speeches. The directions said that we had to go online comment on five people speeches and fill out a rubric for each person. However, I read through the directions so fast and completely messed up the part about filling out the rubrics. As a result, I lost almost 100 points in the class and am now expecting to receive a B in the class. 2. Tell us what you learned from it. I learned that reading directions is extremely important. Even reading directions more than once sometimes in necessary to ensure you know the task you are supposed to be completing. 3. Reflec...

25A – What’s Next? Submit Assignment

Existing Market: Step 1: The next step for my business HMkicks, is to hire employees that will help me get more done in less time. I want organized and hard working students as my employees. They will help me finish my shoes, package them, and ship them. Step 2: After conducting more interviews, I was able to gain a lot of knowledge about reaching more customers. Since I attend the University of Florida, the people I interviewed suggested that I make myself more known throughout the school and gain more “gator” customers. This will also help with not having to ship my shoes across the country since my customers live here. Step 3: In the future I would like to be creating more products rather than just shoes. Possibly t-shirts, hats, and stickers. New Market: Step 1: I want met product to appeal to more than just young adults and college students. Step 2: The people I interviewed suggested that I should reach out to more teenagers, specifically high school students....
