26A Celebrating Failure
- Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed:
I am currently taking a public speaking class that I am enjoying very much. For a lot of people memorizing a speech and having to say it in front of other people is terrifying but for me its super easy and fun. So naturally I went into this class expecting to receive an A, until one day I completely misread directions on how to peer review our classmates speeches. The directions said that we had to go online comment on five people speeches and fill out a rubric for each person. However, I read through the directions so fast and completely messed up the part about filling out the rubrics. As a result, I lost almost 100 points in the class and am now expecting to receive a B in the class.
2. Tell us what you learned from it.
I learned that reading directions is extremely important. Even reading directions more than once sometimes in necessary to ensure you know the task you are supposed to be completing.
3. Reflect, in general, on what you think about failure.
I think that failing can be really hard and embarrassing when it first happens. However, I believe it is failures and mistakes that help us learn and grow throughout our lives. Usually I handle failure by being internally upset about it, then I will probably complain to a friend or a family member, lastly I get over it and try to move on and not make the same mistake again.
Hi Hannah,
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about the mistake you have made in your public speaking class. I too made a mistake this year in my financial accounting class. It happens to the best of us and you need to just bounce back. Great job on this assignment.
Hannah,
ReplyDeleteI can definitely understand your frustration and discouragement from this failure. I made a huge mistake in one of my courses which affected my grade, but this failure made me upset at first, but determined and I worked so much harder to get my grade up which I did! Glad to see the same happened with you! Nice job.
Hey Hannah, I can completely relate to misreading directions when thinking something is supposed to be easy. I am so sorry that happened to you in your speech class, a similar thing happened to me with class. I did not notice we were supposed to submit a link for all the assignments and I ended up getting an F for them.
ReplyDeleteHey Hannah, I can definitely relate to what happened to you because something similar happened to me in this class. I forgot which day some of the peer comments were due and as a result missed out on potential points that could have gotten me an A. From these failures, I hope we can both learn to do better in the future.
